Opportunity:

Grand Erie is seeking a dynamic and experienced Senior Manager of Business Services to provide strategic leadership and management in the areas of Payroll, Purchasing, Accounting, and Budget. Reporting to the Superintendent of Business & Treasurer, the Senior Manager plays a critical role in ensuring financial stewardship, operational efficiency, and compliance with legislative and regulatory frameworks that govern school boards in Ontario.

The successful candidate will be an integral part of the Business Services leadership team, contributing to the achievement of the board's mission and strategic priorities, while fostering a culture of transparency, accountability, and service excellence.


Responsibilities to include:
  • Coordinate the preparation for the Board’s annual budget (currently $410 million) and the audited financial statements and ensure compliance with all related Ministry of Education and the Broader Public Sector requirements.
  • Responsible for overseeing the administration of the Board’s financial functions including the supervision and direction of Accounting, Budget, Payroll and Purchasing Departments.
  • Support the preparation and presentation of reports for the Board’s annual budget as well as all interim internal and external reporting for the Board. This includes the preparation of financial forecasts, budget reports, variance analyses, and multi-year financial strategies.
  • Ensure the accurate and timely processing of payroll for all board employees in compliance with applicable legislation, collective agreements, and internal policies as well as compliance with all payroll tax remittances, pension contributions (OMERS/OTPP), and statutory reporting requirements (T4s, EHT, WSIB, etc.)
  • Develop and implement operational plans aligned with the board's strategic objectives, ensuring optimal use of resources and adherence to best practices
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of professional staff to deliver high-quality business services by fostering a collaborative and inclusive work environment, encouraging innovation and professional growth.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
  • University degree in a related discipline (i.e., Business Administration) and a professional accounting designation (Chartered Professional Accountant)
  • Minimum of seven years of progressive experience in financial management positions, preferably in the public sector
  • Excellent analysis and problem-solving skills
  • Knowledge of financial and budget-related software programs and applications in the public sector
  • Superior computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat Professional, Electronic Document Management and Financial Accounting Systems)
  • Demonstrated effective supervision and leadership skills
  • Ability to deal with competing priorities, multiple demands, and constant deadlines
  • High degree of initiative, independent thought, sound judgement, decision-making skills and problem-solving expertise
  • Strong attention to detail, excellent customer service delivery while maintaining a high level of confidentiality
  • Exemplary interpersonal, communication and organizational skills
 
Job Specifications
Hours of Work 7 hours per day/35 hours per week
Rate of Pay Salary Range:  $141,167 to $154,170
