Grand Erie District School Board represents more than 28,000 students in 58 elementary schools and 14 secondary schools within the City of Brantford and the counties of Brant, Haldimand and Norfolk, as well as students from Six Nations of the Grand River First Nation and Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation. Responsibilities:                                                                                                
  • Working in a customer service partnership with school Principals as the prime customers and both the Principals and the Custodial Area Team Leaders as partners, to create a quality physical educational environment
  • This role includes both cleaning and non-cleaning day needs for the school. Non-cleaning day needs include, but are not limited to (i) checking schools for morning operational problems, damage and/or vandalism, (ii) snow removal, sanding, salting, (iii) keeping entranceways, stairs and corridor floors free of water and sand, (iv) cleaning up after school lunch, (v) check and service washrooms as required, (vi) minor building maintenance repairs and service, (vii) storing supplies and (viii) moving and setting up furniture and equipment, (ix) emergency cleanups, and (x) operation and monitoring of HVAC and other mechanical and electrical equipment and (xi) receiving, sending and processing emails, work requests and other electronic communications
     
Qualifications:
  • Excellent demonstrated interpersonal and communications skills, including literacy and numeracy skills adequate to satisfy the major duties and responsibilities of this position Ability to relate to Principal and teachers with a positive customer service attitude
  • Ability to exercise judgment and establish priorities
  • Must have satisfactory experience and/or training as a caretaker
  • Must have demonstrated experienced or formal training in miscellaneous building minor-maintenance service including the use of various manual and power tools
  • Must be capable of lifting and carrying furniture and supplies, repetitive bending and/or kneeling, climbing ladders and/or scaffolding and snow shoveling
  • Attendance and punctuality history will be a factor in selection
  • Additional qualifications and abilities relative to the major duties and responsibilities may be an asset
 
Job Specifications
Hours of Work Day shift, 40-hours per week, 12 months per year, regularly scheduled for 6:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. (with a 1-hour unpaid lunch), however, special circumstance (i.e., snow, ice) may require flexible start times from time-to-time
Rate of Pay As per the collective agreement
